Get your cards in every place that sells guitars within 50 miles.
Go to festivals that include guitar playing (Celtic, Heritage, Old Time Music) and contact people and ask about participating by providing entertainment at the next one. Find a list of Festivals with addresses.
Start a guitar practice club where people get together at a church or rec center to learn to play tunes solo and together. Do a show for old folks, bedridden, etc., and get some TV station in to cover it.
Do a website so people can look at your "brochure" and perhaps hear you play when they encounter your name and url in print or do a web search for guitar teaching.
Offer a beginning, one step up, or relearning class through community college continuing ed or Fun Ed program.
Carry your guitar in public with a notice on it about classes given, answer people with a brochure kept handy.
Play in public for the entertainment of people - perhaps lunch time in a local park. Discover rules of city about doing this and collecting money (or not.)

First of all, get a Department of Justice clearance (fingerprints)... that way, when asked, you can say yes you've been fingerprinted.

Secondly... go to the local schools in your community. Ask if you can put flyers in their lobby... talk to their Registrar or the counselor who prepares schedules for the students.

Many high school students are in need of fine arts credits. You can teach them guitar and they can get credit for it!

Try the private schools in your area as well... do high schools and middle schools. This will generate enough of a base that you should have several students by the end of summer!

Keep calling the schools and asking to speak to the registrar or counselor to see if anyone has shown an interest.

I also tutor privately, I put an ad on craigslist, and got clients really quickly. I had about 4 students the last school year, and I could have had more but I didn't have time to tutor them all. I am a full time junior high teacher. So, my suggestion is craigslist, many people go there to look for lessons.

Wow...
That's great! I am 22 and I still would love to learn an instrument. I am proud of what you are doing.. only, if you were in Dallas.. lol.

Anyways, well.. start off in newsads (those things that come as magazines in the mail) or general classified. Most likely, it will be referrals from students or even advertise in local schools and recreational centers. Everyone wants to be John Mayer ya know. 8th grade guitarist baby.
