How would you assess a child's ability to identify consonants? Without simply pointing to a letter and saying "What is this letter?" Do you have any ideas to assess this skill in order to plan an instructional activity to teach it?

I have to take the PLT (principles of learning & teaching) for teaching recertification in South Carolina for physical education. I'm currently teaching grades 9-12, but have taught primary in the past and may be back in the primary setting again next year. The state says I can take whichever version I'd like because I'm certified in grades K-12. I can take the one geared more towards younger children, middle age, or high school age. I was wondering if one test tends to be easier than the other. Also, which study guide do you suggest using for preparation. I've seen quite a few different ones out there. Thanks alot!

My professor I feel, along with many of my fellow student, that our teacher has a unfair and ridiculous way of grading. Her aim in grading is really against the student by weighing a project, worth 140 point in her book, equal to a homework check, which she marks as 5 point. She never explained fully about her absurd grading nor does it go with what she had written down in the course syllabus and her form of assigning "points" mislead me. So I'm wondering how should I press this issue towards a Dean? Should I start by having students, which I'm sure their willing to do, sign a petition? Please help. Thanks.

My teacher and I were pretty cool w/ each other. Well one day, i did something to make her mad because of her stupid intern was getting on my nerves. Well she wouldn't talk to me much like she used to do. But when she passed some forms out to the class, she gave me one personally. And another day, she was walking back to her desk, and she looked at me and kinda smiled. Is she not mad at me or what?

Additional Details

But on my report card she didn't put any comments on mine like she used to do. Or maybe it was her intern that put the grades in.

I've been keeping track of what my teacher has been doing. She always stares at me, and when i catch her staring, she'll smile. She takes up for me most of the time if someone has something to say about me. One day she was teasing me for no reason. Sometimes, she tries to get into my business, i guess to get a more in depth view of me. Even her husband knows my name and stuff and knows who i am since he visited the school, but we were never introduced. One day, i went into her classroom, and she was talking on the phone with him, and she asked me a question, then she told her husband, " oh, i was just asking abby a question." Why does she act like this? Am i like a special person to her or what? I'm a girl by the way.

I am horrendous in math. I forget everything the second I step out of the classroom. I've passed all my math classes, but I remember nothing. I probably have about pre-algebra knowledge at this point.

How hard is the math portion? What kinds of questions are there?
