I started volunteering as a teachers aide in 1999.
I went in to help out because my son was starting school.
I noticed classes were over crowded and a lot of the kids did not get the special attention that was desperately needed.
The money was not the important issue..the children were what really mattered to me. I chose to work 1 on 1 with the "problem" kids and the ones who just needed a bit more encouragement than the others.
I did that for 4 years 40 hours a week and I feel that was my greatest accomplishment..seeing them learn & the pride and self worth I helped them acheive.
I never made a cent but gained so much!

Hi
Kinda funny..all growing up I said I wasn't going to be a teacher like my mom and one of my siblings..and ta-dah I turned out to be one..kinda funny...
When I was little, I enjoyed my punishments...doing my mom's classroom bulletin boards and clapping the erasers, washing the blackboards, etc. I helped her grade papers, fill in lesson plans, etc. Kinda sparked an interest.
I went to school for sociology..thinking no matter what you do in life you will need to deal with people. I worked at the beach...and I saw a job in the paper..10 hours a week...watching children...when their parents go to court and counseling. I wanted to help people..that is what kind of job I was looking for...I liked this job..and moved up thru the ranks...and now I am a lead preschool teacher/director.
I am feeling burnt out..of the type of families and children I work with..but it is rewarding....where would they be, if they didn't have our school. kids are so strong! I miss just being in the classroom..I like admin work, but not when the kids are there....i rather do it..once they are gone for the day. I think it is important to be in the classroom....they learn a lot..but I also learn from them. I miss just being a TEACHER.

It was in fifth grade when I decided to be a teacher. I had the greatest teacher in fourth and fifth grade. She made learning fun, and paid attention to our different levels, and she taught and created assignments to meet our needs. When I finished fifth grade I decided I wanted to be a teacher just like her. There were bad teachers, and good teachers, I wanted to be one of the good ones. I also enjoyed helping people learn new things. I never lost interest, and am now a fifth grade teacher.

i decided to be a teacher my senior year of high school. all 4 years of high school my dance team would mentor at the elementary school near ours every wednesday morning. i always mentored the first grade students and i absolutely fell in love with it. there is just something so special about teaching a child something that theyre going to use for the rest of their life, it's so rewarding. from that moment on i knew that it would be an extremely rewarding career and i would still love my job 20 years down the road. i cant wait til i get my masters and start teaching GT =)

Honestly, I don't know. I don't remember a time in my life when I didn't want to be a teacher. It's always been a life-long goal and dream of mine.
