or better still, shouldn't they just ban Americans and anyone else that can't speak and write English properly from using this site until they can?

They start in their FIrst Grade don't they?

Right! At the beginning of the class, shouldn't they make each pupil at that tender age write out 1000 times the following:-

I must learn the meaning of the word Etymology
I must learn the meaning of the word Etymology
I must learn the meaning of the word Etymology
etc., etc., ....

In addition, when they go to their first English Language lesson shouldn't the teacher have the following sign printed on the front of his/her desk:-

Less is more:
Any pupil using words with more syllables than are necessary to make meaningful sentences will be given detention for one hour every day they're at school until they get it right!

Shouldn't it be mandatory that all English teachers in American schools take degrees (or what passes for them there) in the subject of Etymology?

What do you think the message is?(sorry for the misleading question: )

Last night, while I lay thinking here,
some Whatifs crawled inside my ear
and pranced and partied all night long
and sang their same old Whatif song:
Whatif I'm dumb in school?
Whatif they've closed the swimming pool?
Whatif I get beat up?
Whatif there's poison in my cup?
Whatif I start to cry?
Whatif I get sick and die?
Whatif I flunk that test?
Whatif green hair grows on my chest?
Whatif nobody likes me?
Whatif a bolt of lightning strikes me?
Whatif I don't grow talle?
Whatif my head starts getting smaller?
Whatif the fish won't bite?
Whatif the wind tears up my kite?
Whatif they start a war?
Whatif my parents get divorced?
Whatif the bus is late?
Whatif my teeth don't grow in straight?
Whatif I tear my pants?
Whatif I never learn to dance?
Everything seems well, and then
the nighttime Whatifs strike again!

I would love to have a nice, active lesson, maybe reenacting parliamentary debates. Does anyone have any ideas for activities?

I'm looking for a good study guide to boost reading and writing skills in the classroom. I want the students to have one that they find simple to read, lists activities and is a good personal development guide as well.

What do people think of this one:

What is your favorite thing about teaching? What is the most challenging aspect of your job? What changes would you like to see in educational policy? What were the most important lessons you learned during your first few years of teaching? Would you recommend this profession to others?

ok. so. my group has to present to the class of 8th graders about the Digestive System. I was wondering if anyone had any good ideas on how to get the information across better. I want our project to be the most fun for everyone, because everyone knows how boring science can get ;] So I need a fun activity, preferrably one that shows how exactly the digestive juices work. Input from other students is appreciated, but any teacher comments would be welcomed wholeheartedly. Thank you =]

I just don't see how they teach kids anything. Not to research, very few teachers really teach this art. Not English-grammer, unless it's an English course.

I'm finishing up my MBA and I've been doing them all my life and I'm sick of them. I'd rather just take tests.

I just started working as a sub TA in the city schools yesterday. for the most part my job is great so far, its great helping the kids out and i really love it, but theres one thing i think i could use some direction on: finding the appropriate balance between being a nice TA and a strict TA. on the first day i was trying to be as nice as I could, and because of that and the fact that im a sub, the kids tried to walk all over me. today was different, i was still respectful, and as helpful as i could be, but i knew i had to be alot tougher (even wrote my first ever referral today). i definatly saw results, the kids still seemed to like me and i had more control when i was responsible of monitoring them in the halls/ in the cafeteria (which is always really tough), but im worried about balancing it right though, because i dont want to be a pushover, but i dont want to be a jerk. any advice in helping me find the best balance? any 'tricks of the trade' you can inform me about? thanks!

What are the pros and cons between teaching elementary and high school?
In your opinion, which is "better"?

I'm just about to embark on my teaching path. I would like to know what teachers think about their professions as either an elementary school teacher or high school teacher.

I don't know if it makes a difference, but I am a male. I hope you don't bring gender into your answers saying stuff like, "Men can't handle kids, do high school." I love kids.

One more point: I'm looking into international teaching...so if you're an international teacher it would be great to hear from you. But ANY teacher with experience is most welcome to answer.
