Honestly, you should only become a teacher if you have the patience and feel you can honestly make a difference in a childs life. Teachers are special people to a child growing up. Teachers set good examples and help a child get through problems that arise at school when the parent is not around as well as helps them reach their potential. If you love being around children and feel you make a difference, then go for it. I would never want my children around someone that does it just to do something. Caring makes a HUGE difference in the success of a child. Think about it and why you think you might want to enter this field. The money isn't very good, but the rewards can be wonderful.

That is a question only you can answer. I have been an elementary school teacher for 5 years. The reason I went into it is because I enjoy working with children. However, the profession goes way beyond spending time with children all day--a lot is required of you emotionally. And, it is the kind of job that goes home with you at the end of the day. If you want to be a good teacher, be prepared to put a lot of time and energy into it, especially the first couple of years. Good luck, and really consider it. The world needs good teachers.

If you don't know this answer, you probably shouldn't. People need to be motivated from within to become teachers. The job isn't for the faint hearted, those without direction or those who seek to make a lot of money.
You should only become a teacher because you can't wait to get up in the morning and get to school where you can touch the lives of students and inspire greatness.

Teachers, at least the ones for the last 20 years, go into the profession because they are really unable to do anything else. In order to teach you must know something but you don't need to be able to do something. One has to do with knowledge, the other with knowledge and skill. All of the teachers under the age of 40 that I have talked to hate their jobs, hate the bureaucracy, hate the kids and don't feel they make enough. When I ask them why do they continue, they tell me that they are not qualified to do anything else.
Enjoy.

If you are not sure, find opportunities to volunteer or observe in as many different grades and classrooms as you can. There are lots of little nuances of teaching that can't always be explained. Teaching styles, classroom management, learning environment, can differ greatly, even among teachers in the same grade. It's like anything else... You need to really do some intense investigation to decide if this is a profession you'd be willing to invest in.
Best of luck,
Mon :-)
