ok. so. my group has to present to the class of 8th graders about the Digestive System. I was wondering if anyone had any good ideas on how to get the information across better. I want our project to be the most fun for everyone, because everyone knows how boring science can get ;] So I need a fun activity, preferrably one that shows how exactly the digestive juices work. Input from other students is appreciated, but any teacher comments would be welcomed wholeheartedly. Thank you =]

well, i grew up with this great cartoon that took place inside the body. all the cells in your body that carry out functions were little workers, going about the business of making the body run as it was supposed to. I learned a lot from that show, and it gives me an idea for your activity.
pretend like you're going inside the body. divide the class into groups, putting each group in charge of a part of the digestive system. have them map out the whole system on the floor (outside with chalk, if you want), and then have them research and act out what is happening to the food as it goes along the system. example: 4 students each group. using some of that fuzzy pillow stuffing you can buy in bags to represent the food. the students in the mouth would do the work of the teeth in breaking it up (they might break up the chunk of pillow stuffing into smaller pieces), and somehow show the effect of the saliva. then the students in the esophagus group take these smaller pieces and carry them down to the stomach. the stomach group would then carry on from there, using whatever methods they find most appropriate to show the effect of the physical movements and the effect of stomach acids on the "food". and so forth down the line. as the group acts it all out, they explain what is going on with the food.
it's a visual aid, a physical experience and a creative and open-ended activity all in one. i think it would be fun too.

You could bring food in and show where all the food groups go i.e. sugar means rock candy and protein is chicken nuggets. You talk about the different enzymes on the tongue and how it breaks down. Then, you give everyone a plane cracker and tell them to chew it. They should note the "sugary" flavor goes away as the enzymes in the saliva digest it. Then, you give them an example of how it goes down the throat and describe peristalsis. When it comes the stomach, give everyone a balloon and a cup of sugar and a much smaller cup of water. Tell them to put the sugar in the big balloon. Then, add the water. Knot the balloon and shake it and mix. Then, give scissors out to cut the balloon and pour it into a cup to show how the stomach mixes. As for the intestines, overnight, put an egg in salt water and say the egg represents the food. The egg would have shrivelled and the water would have left, showing the effect. Then continue the rest of the presentation regularly.

Yes I do cram for checks (certainly technology) now not for international languages (Italian one million) and my instructor is soo wow there are too many matters to explain him I would actually write a two web page essay correct now in this reply lol. Bottom line we do not get checks hes a slack instructor. I think u simplest want two years of a global language that u whole at the same time in tuition but when ur doing them now that is satisfactory (lol do not have taken the third 12 months) And sure ur Spanish magnificence in core university will depend (if u handed the category)

My daughter did this report kinda she wrote a essay being a food of her choice and all the places her adventure took her thru the human body .She had me laughing from when she was on the plate as a steak that was suffering burn marks in a grill accident to the fact that didn't burn as bad as the stomache acids she encountered all the way till she made her big splash in yep that is it the toilet. It was great to hear how they can really use some adj. and take all steps in to account.
