I need a book, an anticipatory set (something to grab their attention) and after reading activites. I'm drawing a blank and it's very frustrating!

All you teachers, I am considering teaching, and most definately not for the money. I am sorry to all of you who I offended or upset with the wording of my last question. I am interested in the "summers off" to coinside with my daughters schedule at school. Does it not really work out for that. I agree that teachers are underpaid and overworked with parents not all doing their job. I do love kids, but haven't done teaching yet for some personal reasons ( getting over the loss of my second daughter)

I always thought teachers had to do too much non-teaching stuff and political type stuff. That is why I asked about other possible avenues to work with young children. I love music, but don't know about job availabililty for a music teacher, and I just want to be around kids. Maybe even babies, I love babies and in the NICU they did a wonderful job helping premie and sick babies, but I am no nurse.

Done rambling. Ideas and feedback is appreciated.

1) How many people do u know get tutors for their kids, let's say in Math?

2) How much do tutors get paid?

3) Are tutors just knowledgable in a certain branch of education or do they have to get some kind of cerrtification to be tutors?

Hi. I live in New Jersey, and have been trying to obtain a permanent elementary teaching position for over a year without any success. There seem to be little to no jobs available, and when one does become available, there are literally thousands of applicants. Can someone please tell me if you have heard anything about states (on the east coast) that are in need of elementary teachers? If not, any suggestions for me??? This is getting very depressing.

Thanks.

I am about to graduate from school as an English and a special education majors and I am looking for what teachers who are hard of hearing do to help themselves teach. What are the difficulties and what do they do? How do they manage the classroom if they can't hear what's being said when it's noisy? How do you talk to your students about the situation? I don't want to know about teaching hard of hearing students but rather a teacher who IS hard of hearing teaching hearing students.

I teach high school p.e. in a suburban middle-class school district & the students do not seem to care about their grades as consequences (i.e. getting 1/2 credit for 1/2 effort). What are some other appropriate consequences to try to get the students to do what they should be doing. I have about 75% of my students giving 80%-100% effort, but the other 25% simply dont seem to care.

If there is a period in which someone was attacked 4 times per day, every day without fail for 20 solid years; other than this being rediculous; what would a better word than 'frequently' be?

The word frequently does not seem to be enough to emphisise just how regular such attacks are?

Thesurous and dictonary is not effective enough

I am going back to school to finish my teaching certificate- that I started many years ago- I am concerned about todays youth, it seems like they don't care and they give the teachers a hard time. I know that teenagers challenge authority, but how do you get them to participate in school and what do you do when someone decides that he/she wants to cut up?
