I am about to go on an interview tomorrow for a new district, as I am leaving the one I am currently employed in. What is the reason you applied there in the first place? I usually try to mention something about how the district vision or goals aligns with my personal philosophy on education. And, you can somehow tie in your personal experiences into that as well. Do you know anybody who already works for the district? If so, do they seem happy and pleased with how things are conducted there? You can mention that as well. Also, if you plan on being there for a while, you can say something about why the district would be a good place to sort of establish yourself there. You might not even be asked that, I haven't always had to answer that question. Good luck to you.

As someone who has been involved with interviewing your answer must be authentic.
There are many answers that posters can provide to help guide you - but any good interviewer will clearly see through a "canned" answer and one that is honest and heartfelt.
Just make a list of why you do want to work for that district, and the more specific you can be the better.
One good thing you can do is connect your skills and talents to the goals of the district. Show that you want to work for them because you have a strength in an area that you know that district values and you feel you can contribute that.

Why do you want to work for that district? Is it the location to your home? family? Does it have a reputation for academic excellence? Are the students known to be well behaved, parents involved in the classes and PTA?
Be honest, you know why you applied to work in that school district and thats what they are wanting to hear.
If its a really poor district with a bad reputation your reasons might be because you see a need for good teachers and you want to help.

here's an example. What ever doesn't match to the stuff that happened in your life just change the name to make this true.
I went to school in Bethel Park and I am proud of the education I received. In elementary school, I had a teacher named Mrs. J. Carr who cared about me and was an excellent teacher. Mrs. J. Carr's way of teaching and caring for her students has always been in the back of my mind. Through school and my past professional experiences I tried to model myself off of Mrs. J. Carr and some of the other many wonderful teachers that I was lucky to have in Bethel Park School District. I want to give back to the community what it has given me... (This would be where I would make some corny line up about what being a BP graduate K-12 has done for me as a teacher) Talk about the school's reputation

Do you have any vested interest in the district? Do you have family that attend? Did you attend? Talk about how the district is involved in the community and you like that.

all of the answers above me are great. you also need to know the answer to these questions:
1. What does balanced literacy mean to you?
2. Give examples where you have used flexible grouping...
3. How do you feel about NCLB?
A's:
1. http://olc.spsd.sk.ca/DE/PD/instr/strats/balancedliteracy/index.html
2. http://www.eduplace.com/science/profdev/articles/valentino.html
3. http://www.nsta.org/nclbppt
*for number 3, even if you don't like NCLB, as a teacher it is the law and you are required to do whatever it takes to meet the standards behind No Child Left Behind. Leave your opinion out of it. Discuss how your daily lessons are filled with objectives that are linked with standards.
