Hi. I live in New Jersey, and have been trying to obtain a permanent elementary teaching position for over a year without any success. There seem to be little to no jobs available, and when one does become available, there are literally thousands of applicants. Can someone please tell me if you have heard anything about states (on the east coast) that are in need of elementary teachers? If not, any suggestions for me??? This is getting very depressing.

Thanks.

Southern states, mostly-- try Florida, Louisiana, Alabama. Also you'll have good luck the western states with a large population growth like Las Vegas and Arizona.

Nothern states in suburbs near big cities (Chicago, New York, Buffalo, New Jersey, etc) are the toughest places to get jobs. .. but they do pay very well if you can get a job there.

If you're job hunting, try this eBook-- it's got lots of information and tips on getting a teaching jobs (how to get teacher interviews; common interview questions and answers; etc)... the book is at http://www.iwantateachingjob.com . It's 20 bucks.

Good luck on your job search!

It's less about what states and more about what your specialties are. For example, you'd be snatched up in a minute if you were high school or middle school math or science, but elementary teachers usually have the biggest pool of applicants for which there are sometimes few openings.

I used to teach for an east coast district online as a contract teacher. Worked my own hours and made pretty good money. You teach hs level classes - all subjects - but you only have to have a teaching certification (not necessarily HS). It may be something to do in the meantime. http://www.nexuslearning.net/teacherlogon.htm

As for teaching in the classroom, make yourself standout. Your resume needs to be impressive. I usually combbound a title page, my resume, my transcripts, copies of awards, letters of reference to present to principals when I interviewed. Good luck!

Maryland and the Southern States (that pay abhorantly) are continually hiring. consistent with annum they have a scarcity of instructors, and can fill the positions with no longer knowledgeable personell. yet, as those jobs pay poorly, i does no longer stay down there for better than a year or 2. (i grow to be in Maryland for a million year coaching, in the previous returning to Pennsylvania, the place instructors are paid ok)

Arizona...my district still has openings that weren't filled for this year! Out of about 120 new teachers hired this year, over 80 were from out of state.
