100years ago William Willett proposed introduction of British Summer Time . He believed most people were wasting daylight by sleeping rather than being outdoors. In 1907 Willett published a pamphlet 'The Waste of Daylight, and suggested advancing the clocks by 80minutes. He reckoned it would save artificial light. The bill went to parliament but was thrown out. In World War 1 attitudes changed. Germany advanced their clocks by 1 hour to assist productivity. Britain soon followed. On May 21st 1916 British Summer time was adopted - despite public protests.

it's all so that we get a little extra sunlight. Ever notice that the days get shorter in winter? That's why we fall back an hour to get that extra hour of sunlight. It's good for the economy because jobs are more efficient and make more money during the day, seeing as how thats when people wanna work or shop.

ben franklin started it, it was mainly for farmers who had to wake up before dawn to feed the animals and tend the fields, because of the rotation of the planet, during the spring/summer months the US has more hours of daylight, and the fall/winter months, less. the benefit is that you leave work just before its dark out, and just before light in the winter time

I think its the same reason as the leap year.
Farmers complained that they didnt have enough time to harvest as it got darker and they were still expected to give the products on time.
Thats just a rumour and chance are it could be wrong...
