I have this teacher who teaches a class called Desktop Publishing. He doesn't know what he is teaching. He never seems to treat people fairly and always seems cofused. The students know better than him. He expects all the students to have learnt the class topic without him teaching. I had a quiz today on text in illustrator. There were 2 classes taught on that but i was only present for one of the classes. I failed the quiz...I have never failed in my school life.. I was literally in tears.. He doesn't seem to understand that it is unfair to test one when they were not present for one of the classes... What should i do??? Please help!

Besides the ramifications of breaking my contract and losing my honor, how bad is it? I feel completely overwhemed and alone. This is my first year teaching and I don't have a mentor. I teach at a two room country school with one other teacher. We have been so busy we rarely have time to talk about how my teaching is going. I hate it. I don't know how I can make it for a whole school year. Help!!

Hi, I am a citizen of an english speaking country and I am currently in a foreign french-speaking country as an English Assistant in the equivalent to a middle school. I am only 22. My job is to basically serve as a dictionary and pronunciation guide between the two languages (I am at an advanced french level.) I have only had the french-speaking students by myself a couple of times and never bigger than 15 but I am still having trouble getting some of them, especially the less motivated students, to stay quiet and pay attention; through observing other english classes i've seen that some are absolutely silent and obidient, and others are rowdy, it seems to depend on the teacher/the teacher's methods. What would be good methods to keep these middle-school age students obedient and quiet enough to learn my language? Considering they use it all the time in slang and in slogans I would think that they would have interest...

I am working with a forward thinking group and we are currently looking for future trends regarding how staff training in a correctional setting should be presented in the future. We have come up with some ideas; such as: video game training, virtual, etc.; however, I am trying to solicit other creative ideas and I'm not getting to far when I search on the internet. If anyone has ideas, I would greatly appreciate it.

It will forever amaze me how our school could employ teachers of such incompetence. My chemistry, physics and calculus teachers are utterly morons who hasn't got the slightest clue of the subject. They insist that I memorize the formulas instead of understanding the concepts. This not only prevents you from learning the material but it also deprives your critical thinking skills. How can I possibly learn? Any suggestions?

I graduated from college in May with a major in Spanish Literature and a minor in Women's Studies. While I was in my last semester of college, the school where I substituted in the day (I took my classes at night so I could work), asked me to fill an instant Spanish teaching position because they had to let a teacher go. They liked the way I taught and I finished the year. I am now in Spain studying to get my Masters degree in Multicultural Education...I will return back to the States in late August, but I am not certified as a teacher. I have taken the praxis II and did very well. How can I receive certification and get a job in the U.S. while in Spain? Is it possible? I would also like to continue my studies and get a Ph.D. I am married, but have no children. I am 22...I know I have time, but would like to finish all of this as soon as would be possible....ANY SUGGESTIONS WELCOME! Thanks!

In a teaching placement I undertook in a secondary school, I was appalled at some of the methods used to get students to remember simple things, i.e. inverted comma(s). It wasn’t that long ago when they were called their proper name: quotation marks and/or an apostrophe.

In that same school, students were being spoon-fed by their teachers as to what to write exactly to obtain higher marks on their exams.

How can we combat the "dumbing down" of our education system?
