Hi, I am a citizen of an english speaking country and I am currently in a foreign french-speaking country as an English Assistant in the equivalent to a middle school. I am only 22. My job is to basically serve as a dictionary and pronunciation guide between the two languages (I am at an advanced french level.) I have only had the french-speaking students by myself a couple of times and never bigger than 15 but I am still having trouble getting some of them, especially the less motivated students, to stay quiet and pay attention; through observing other english classes i've seen that some are absolutely silent and obidient, and others are rowdy, it seems to depend on the teacher/the teacher's methods. What would be good methods to keep these middle-school age students obedient and quiet enough to learn my language? Considering they use it all the time in slang and in slogans I would think that they would have interest...
