I graduated from college in May with a major in Spanish Literature and a minor in Women's Studies. While I was in my last semester of college, the school where I substituted in the day (I took my classes at night so I could work), asked me to fill an instant Spanish teaching position because they had to let a teacher go. They liked the way I taught and I finished the year. I am now in Spain studying to get my Masters degree in Multicultural Education...I will return back to the States in late August, but I am not certified as a teacher. I have taken the praxis II and did very well. How can I receive certification and get a job in the U.S. while in Spain? Is it possible? I would also like to continue my studies and get a Ph.D. I am married, but have no children. I am 22...I know I have time, but would like to finish all of this as soon as would be possible....ANY SUGGESTIONS WELCOME! Thanks!

I got my Certification through Alternative Certificaton. This is a program in the school district where I teach. It took a whole year, they usually have a summer training (2 months) before school starts, you need to pass all the state assessments throughout the year, and attend to the trainings and meetings from the program. This is designed for college graduates in any other subject but Education. I do not think you can do this online....but contact the school district you want to teach in or google their websites. Good luck!

Contact the state department of education in the State that you want to work in, they might have "an alternate route" to teacher certification. Since you are earning your Masters in Education your requirements would be different from what I know about.

I do know that the "No Child Left Behind Act", requires all teachers to be "highly qualified" in the subject they wish to teach.
This mean you must have 30 college credits in the subject, and pass the Praxis II in that subject.

Since your subject is a foreign language you may be required to pass an oral Praxis, I am not sure, but if you are living in Spain, I'm sure you will or have already passed.

Well, I think I can give you some information on where you and how to get certified. I took the test one year ago. Here is what you can do,
but first, are you a USA citizen or a green card holder?
If you are not, the department of education does not issue professional licenses to none citizens, but if you are, you can contact the college where I took my mine. The name the of college is Lehman college. It does offer workshops on Teacher certification, such as liberal arts and science test [LAST], and Assessment of teaching skills-written [ATS-w]
Their website is www.lehman.edu./edu, and telephone is 718-960-8512.

Wish you the best.

If there is something I found out in university, it is that you just have to do 2 matters on checks. Scratch that, 3. The first is to stick calm and now not panic over the difficult stuff. The moment is making definite to do the convenient questions first, and of direction be certain that you have had a well breakfast the day earlier than. Yeah, I understand, it is not really the equal factor, however the equal laws nonetheless practice for ANY experiment!

you need to contact the state board of education for the state where you plan to live; there are a few differences from state to state; most probably would require you take a methods course and a curriculum course at the very least;
