It will forever amaze me how our school could employ teachers of such incompetence. My chemistry, physics and calculus teachers are utterly morons who hasn't got the slightest clue of the subject. They insist that I memorize the formulas instead of understanding the concepts. This not only prevents you from learning the material but it also deprives your critical thinking skills. How can I possibly learn? Any suggestions?

Okay, well, first, maybe you should pay more attention in your English class. Second, have you discussed your concerns with the aforementioned teachers? I think that most teachers would be receptive to answering your questions and adressing your concerns. If not, perhaps you can talk to your guidance counselor about changing to a different teacher.

It seems to me that if you understand the concept then usually you can also remember the formulas involved. Give your teachers some credit -- maybe they are not "morons" as you call them. It isn't easy teaching to a class of high schoolers, especially if that teacher is treated like they are morons by their students.

conceptual learning is not easy to do or teach.... some get it some don't and some never will.... part of the problem here is that teachers understand this, and if they try to teach the class the concepts.... they will loose half or more of their students....memorizing the formulas will help you pass the tests, but understanding why too is always best.... try not to be so hard on your teachers.... they are not morons or they would not be teaching the more advanced classes of chem, physics, and calculus.... and furthemore, you are not a moron, or you would not be in these classes.... so my advice is to take the extra time before or after school and go talk to them..... chances are they are looking for a mind to stimulate and will enjoy the experience... i found that spending the extra time with the teachers to ask about the why's and how's actually alters the way they teach.good luck.

i'm a teacher and that's highly offensive. you try teaching a bunch of children that don't want to be there and are required to take the class. if you feel that you are not learning what you think you should be, you need to address that to the teacher and if that is no help talk to the principal. i agree there are teachers that aren't very effective and it's usually because they are jaded. lots of teachers lose the spark to teach b/c lots of kids do silly things that an adult, a teacher just doesn't have time to deal with. when you are an adult and deal with 25+ hormonal teenagers that haven't quite found out who they are yet then maybe you'll understand. until then give us some credit. we deal with a lot. we are under paid, our class sizes are huge, we can only take vacation durning the summer, but most of us have to find a summer job b/c we don't get paid when school is out. that also includes1 week thanksgiving break, 2-3 weeks holiday break and 2 weeks spring break. we don't get paid for those break times except for holiday break. and us teacher aren't asking for those breaks, they are purely for the students. think a bit next time before you call them a moron. if they were morons they wouldn't still be teaching or they wouldn't be teaching at all.

You want to know how you can learn from "idiotic teachers"?

With a bit of humility and respect. You know, actually go in there and do the work, rather than simply dismissing your teachers as idiotic.

get a new teacher and work to get the "idiots" fired.

hire a tutor if you can't get a new teacher, learning is about personal responsibility...don't let someone stop you from achieving
