I started teaching because it was an opportunity that came to my life and I took it. Now, I teach because I love every minute of it, my students and I enjoy learning together, and because it gives me the opportunity to reach 22 lives every year and give them my love, attention, respect, encouragement, and knowledge to help them become good citizens. I know I may not change the world, but I would definitely make a difference in every one of my students life.

6. I'd give teaching as a vocation a 4 right now, NCLB has drastically cut the value of education as a whole and between discipline and parents, the stress at times isn't worth it
I teach because I am good at it and especially with special needs kids the progress you see is a "natural high". I do it because for example---- the other day one of my ex-students came to see me (he was in a gang when I had him in class) and told me that he had turned his life around and was staying out of trouble, getting job training because I had been the only adult that had EVER told him he had worth and believed in him. He told me whenever he thought about doing a "bad" thing, he would see my face and that he never wanted to let me down that way. Yea, I think I'll keep doing this..... sorry about the 10 word rule LOL

I think education has been watered down to the point that most students expect to sit in class, write anything on a sheet of paper and get an A. The words study, personal responsibility and effort mean nothing.

Parents FAIL to be involved in their children's education. Parent's FAIL to be involved in their children's lives period. This makes my job difficult and in some cases impossible.

Too much emphasis is being placed on standardized tests. School administrators feel the pressure and pass it on to teachers who pass it on to students and it's just a really ugly situation at this point, without much being accomplished.

I have a lot of fun teaching and I think that I have a lot of students who like learning the subject that I teach. I also enjoy getting to know the students on a person level. Aside from my complaints,I really do like my kids. I think they are great, and though they don't always demonstrate it, they are capable of great things.
