In my case, I think teaching chose me! I originally wanted to be an astrophysicist, but I realized in grad school that I didn't really want to become a scientist after all. I decided to go into education (to study how people learn, not to actually teach), then I got a job working at a planetarium that was part of a community college. I loved working in the planetarium, entertaining/teaching school groups and the public. Since I have a master's degree, the community college talked me into teaching part time. I didn't want to, but they begged so much and I really needed the extra money anyway. I never thought I'd be good at teaching in a traditional setting, but it turns out I am good at it! And I actually enjoy it! Now I teach college full time (I don't think I could teach younger students, as I can't handle behavior issues) and I love my job!

To pass on your knowledge to the young ones so that the future can learn from you the mistakes that you made. And also to teach them the way you think will benefit them the most because when you were young, you feel that the teacher did not teach you using the correct method. (These should be the main reason) It should not be.. because you cant find any job outside because your qualification only allow you into teaching profession. And this profession should not be your last choice.

I have always wanted to be a teacher. When I was little, "playing school" was my favorite thing to do. I set up a classroom in the garage and taught the neighborhood kids. I taught my two younger brothers to read and do basic math. It's something my parents told me I was "born to do." I've taught public school many years, and I still get a thrill when my elementary students learn a new concept. I am teaching the children of some of my former 3rd and 6th grade students, and it's so gratifying that they want me to teach their children. It's gratifying to see the adults my former students have grown to be. When times in the classroom get trying, and they do, I think of the small differences I have made in some people's lives, and I continue on because I know that I'm helping someone achieve the goal of becoming a responsible adult in the future.

I didn't choose teaching as my profession, but I have friends who did and they all had a natural talent for teaching and enjoyed it. On the other side of the coin there are many teachers who are in it just because the hours coincide with their son's and daughter's. Some of these opportunist teachers are really a pain in the *** when your trying to learn from them. You'd probable do better on your own studying from a text book.

I didn't choose teaching, teaching chose me. I finished 2.5 years of a nursing degree and woke up one morning and thought I have something else to offer besides a pleasant bedside manner. I enjoy seeing my moderate/severe special education students finally learning a task that has evaded them for a long time. I enjoy seeing a parent smile when I tell them that their child has finally learned how to spell their name or tie their shoes or has finally learned their address and phone number. I was always told growing up that I should be a teacher. Well, I have never regretted my decision.

1) I wanted a job where I felt like I had important work to do everyday. Most of my friends sit and surf the internet all day at their jobs, and talk about how much work sucks. I always noticed that teachers were able to tell the best stories about their day to day lives in their jobs.
2) Job availability, which I later learned to be untrue since I am certified in Social Studies.
3) I really enjoy helping people and answering questions, like I am doing right now.
4) I enjoy being around people who are currently experiencing the best time of their life. Their energy rubs off on me.

I wanted to change the lives of children. I started out as a social worker, but then I only got to work with a few kids for limited periods of time. This year I have the power to affect about 50 kids for an entire year. Way better, if you ask me.

I wanted to, very much. However, my well meaning mother pushed me into nursing. She was a nurse, and "knew" that I'd love it, too. Turns out, I hated it. Left that job as soon as I could.

Closest I ever got was being chosen to teach card dealers for our casino. I was giving people the skills they needed for a good job, and I adored doing that. Went to work happily every day.

Parents ought to listen to their kids. If the kid wants to teach, there is no reason to insist on something else.
