All of my courses are advanced. I have taken 2 or 3 AP courses throughout my high school career. I am involved in at least 3 extra-curriculars every year such as Key Club, my school's student recruiting club, I am Editor of my school's paper and I am secretary of the student body. Also, I am involved in my church and I am the director for a teen retreat. My GPA hovers around 3.5 to 3.75 and my PSAT scores show that I should get anywhere from a 1700-1900 on the SAT. I don't do anything unless I really care about it. I'm looking for a school that is academically strong, a school that is located in an urban setting such as Austin, San Antonio, or Houston. I would prefer a school that is moderately sized but big schools are OK. Tell me what you think.

Im a Junior. I had a bad freshman year of high school but im back on track and by the end of my Junior year I should have a 3.3 or a little higher, my school doesnt weight honors, only AP's, which they only give a .5 for them. I have had a big grade improvement trend. 2.75, 3.57, 3.85 so far. Im African-American, and going to be a first genereation college student. Im in numerous honors/AP classes.
SAT's should be around 2000, with math score really high. Im an intelligent kid but I had a lot of problems my freshman year, which I will explain in my essay.
My EC's include: FBLA(Chairman/Tresurer) National Business Honor Society, Science Honor Society, Senior Math Team, Freshman BBall (Co-Captain), JV BBall (Co-Captain), Varsity Spring/Winter Track for 11th and 12th grade(Captain). Technology Student Association, tutor. I also volunteer at a local church with 1st graders.
Honestly what are my chances for Cornell? I will be applying ED, majoring in Economics. Other school suggestions?

I'm 24 years old. Just recently, I've decided to change my major to Information Technology. I've heard that Southeastern Louisiana (4 year institution) has a great IT program. However, that'll extend my program to 2 more years.

Now, University of Phoenix allows me to earn my B.S degree in 2 years. Do you feel that this is credible and will benefit me at all? I know someone who's getting their Bachelor's from Phoenix, but I know that most employers don't receive degrees from Phoenix (online) as they will from a 4 year institution. How would you feel if you had to choose between the 2 colleges?

I applied and was admitted to UT AUSTIN but this year, (senior year) i have been slacking off and my semester average is now a 3.0. Last time I checked, my GPA was a 3.85. how much will the 3 average affect my 3.8? I heard UT has the option of revoking admission decisions if your GPA drops too low...should I be panicking right about now?

Hello,

I took a geology class and I was wondering if that counts towards science GPA?

Also, I've taken college Algebra over in one college and took it again in another college. Say if I got a B- and an A. Do they average the two grades up?

There is no immediate financial incentive, deadline, or other external pressure to motivate me. The internal pressure/incentive comes from wanting to academically achieve more than my parents (older generation), enjoying learning, the challenge of acheiving the highest level of education I can, and yes, the "Dr" sounds good behind my name :) However, I know I will continue postponing it because I'm intimdated by the horror stories, it's a large task and I'm afraid of starting and failing.

Please don't tell me how I don't need to go for it or try to discourage me. I'm looking for tips to mentally push and motivate myself to start the process.
