People go to a JC knowing that they will move on to another college.

There are a lot of reasons why students would start off at one four-yer college and then transfer to another. Here are a few:

1. They want to transfer to a much better school (this is hard to do if you start at a JC -- and easier if you start at a decent school & do well).

2. The school is too challenging for them & they need to step down to an easier school.

3. They decide to major in something that is not offered at their current school (e.g., they are at a liberal arts college & decide they want to major in business or engineering).

4. It is too expensive, and they transfer to a public school or a school near home to save money.

5. They miss their family or friends & decide they need to be closer to home.

6. They want to get away from their family & decide they need to go away to school.

People go to Junior college in most cases because they cannot get into a regular college. Sometimes it's cost, but usually academics. The goal is to then get good enough grades to prove you can hack it at the regular college.
