just a point of correction on the above. A college graduate is not an "uppergrad" - it's simply "graduate student" in "grad school" ☺

The levels are:

Primary school - usually 6th and under and sometimes divided into primary and elementary

Middle grades -- between 6 and 9 but most often just 7-8 (sometimes included in secondary)

Secondary - either 9 or 10 through 12

Vocational - is career or job related. Doesn't always require completion of high school. A community college can be both vocational and post-secondary depending on your program.

Post-secondary - academic education beyond high school. This includes 4-year colleges as well as graduate and professional schools.

Undergraduate - this is above high school through award of the bachelor's (4-year) degree and includes the associates degree and the undergraduate certificates/diplomas.

Graduate school - requires a bachelor's degree for entry. Includes the master's and doctorate level as well as graduate certificates and the EdS.

Professional school - may require a bachelor's degree but always requires some college for admission. Includes medicine, law, dentistry, veterinary, etc...

High school is called secondary education so college is post secondary education. Undergraduate is the first four years of college where you work toward your bachelors degree.

Undergrad means you do not have a bachelors degree. All colleges, technical, or vocational schools after getting your high school diploma are post secondary schools. After high school you will be an undergrad that is applying for post secondary schools. After you get your bachelors degree you will be going for a masters degree if you intend on staying in school. You will then be an uppergrad.

As a high school senior you will be applying for undergraduate school.

All school after high school is post-secondary.
