After medical school you do get paid but not very much. Mostly under $40,000 but a big chunk is taken out for paying back loans.

You don't make the big $100,000+ until your done with residency which is 4+ years after med school.

During residency, they are paid... but they work long hours for very little pay: generally between $40,000-$50,000. After residency is completed and the job officially started, the salary will jump to the six figures.

interns make about 40K and that number goes up slightly based on what year of residency you are in and if you make chief resident.
