You will earn a degree in Social Work, and will choose a concentration in your area of specific interest. The concentrations tend to include such things as domestic violence, child protection, elderly protection, institutional planning, et cetera. Sometimes a Master of Social Work degree is required to earn credentialed training in a specific area.

Look up the Department of Social Work at any major university and you will learn the types of classes required and offered, as well as what additional graduate degrees will allow you to do.

My mom is a licensed social worker but was grandfathered in. her degree was in sociology. They have social work as a major and it can focus on family and child issues. a master program might focus in a certain area more than a bachelors. you can get a grad degree in social work at the University of Alabama.

If you want to go into this field, than major in social work. It would be wise to minor or even double major with sociology or psychology. Personally, I would go get a psychology degree and become a psychologist

BSW (bachelors of social work), but you need an MSW for any real meaningful work.
