Although they may specialize in different fields, people with Electrical/computer engineering, civil engineering, and computer sci (software engineering) degrees tend to have the higher entry level salaries. I went to Cal Poly Pomona, and those guys had no problem landing well paying jobs, especially at companies like Northrop Grumman, Raytheon, Boeing, and even JPL (Jet Propulsions Laboratory -NASA).

Overall, it's not the name of the school you went to, or the degree you obtained. It's about what you did while you were in school. Ultimately, that's what you will be judged on, so co-op opportunities are a definite plus for students. Name recognition will sometimes help however, you ain't sh*t unless you can perform well and deal with the day to day challenges that arise in the workplace, esp in any engineering discipline. Someone can always help you get a job, but you will be "let go" with no hesitation if you are not productive. It's as simple as that.
