Every time i start up my system Laptop with VistaHome premium 32 bit I am prompted in the task bar that updates are available for my norton antivirus, click yes/no to install.
I just find it hard to beleive that its that many updates avaialble to install i can click no and go into my norton contrl and it says everything is up to date and no updates are needed. I was thiinking this could be caused as the system is loading Norton is not fully loaded yet and it is prompting that updates are available but it actually from the program not fully loaded making it think that. Is this possible. It is just so annoying and I can go in and ry to manually install updates it will search and say all updates are installed and no further updates are available. then if i restart my computer it asks again. any suggestions , thoughts, ideas etc. Thanks.

Lots of great advice on the last Q. Thanks to everyone who responded. Next question is what order do I uninstall Norton? Before or after I load another program(s)? And is it going to be a pain to uninstall?

Greetings - my hard drive began getting itself stuck into a loop of repeated drive noise (normal drive noise, but a repeated pattern during which the computer locks up or slows almost to a stop). I have never, in 20 years of computer use, heard drive noise that comes in patterns like that and it seems like an impending drive death to me (it just seems instinctual that patterned drive noise instead of random equals hardward problem - if I am wrong, please tell me!). My computer warranty holders say otherwise, and are saying that there is a virus. I am not letting them charge me to clean the drive - is there anything I can download from home that will clean the drive just in case it is virus related? If not, I guess I will have to wait for the drive to fail completely - about 5 weeks left on the warranty!

I did have McAfee running, but a full scan of the computer stops short of completion. Thanks for your help in advance...

AFTER I installed Norton on my puter, I found out how many people DON'T like it. Going to uninstall it. Advice on who to go with. I have been told of some of the freebies, but whenever I've looked at them, they turn out to NOT be free, and alot of them are only trials. Help......... What should I do folks? Thanks and have an awsome day!!

My laptop has a virus(es) that slow it down and always stop IE and firefox, that have come from "things" that I have downloaded or watched. My laptop even though I have deleted quite a few still have some of these porn videos lurking in some places and places I cannot find them.My laptop is covered by Pc Worlds £15 a month cover and I plan to give it to them to wipe and clean up the viruses.....There lies the rub...Will PC world notify me off what they find, snigger like girls when I collect or tell my mum/dad if they collect it what I have been watching?or worse?...Is this service strictly confidential or are bad things going to happen and I should just murder my laptop. HELP ME PLEASE!!!

About a week ago, my computer caught a virus listed as malware. Norton caught it after a minute or two, but ever since then my computer won't play anything on www.live365.com and certain videos on youtube. On live365, it will let me log in and navigate to favorites, but it won't let me open the station pages. When I click the speaker to listen, the window pops up to load, but never finishes loading, and the picture on the right side is gone. The videos it won't play on youtube are the ones that say BMG and stuff like that under the pictures. It will play the rest of the videos on youtube. Sometimes it has trouble loading some pictures, but it still works otherwise. I've tried updating my java and flash player, and I've tried system restore, but it still won't play. I've also tried turning off pop-up blockers. I've never had any problems like this out of my computer before and Norton caught the virus, so I don't know what's wrong.
I use Windows XP and Norton Antivirus.

This virus immediately sends a message saying to open a file to all my IM contacts, using a line such as "Look at this beautiful sunset. Man I wish I was there to see it with my own eyes." or "OMG, i found ur pic on cuteornot.com! im not kidding either!!!" or "sry about the messup i fixed the pic! Try it one more time plz". If you open the file then you get the virus.

After installing COMODO Firewall 3.0, after reboot computer freezes on startup when the COMODO service is being started. If I disable the service with msconfig everything is fine. I thought it might be windows firewall blocking it, so I disabled it, no help. I have not tried to stop Avast! from running, or windows defender, yet, could either of them be blocking the service? has anyone else had this problem? I have searched to no avail.
