Unsecured wireless systems can be used by anyone to gain access to the internet. Someone could, sit outside your home and use your unsecured wireless signal to access the internet and commit a crime. Attorneys and victims of internet crime are beginning to sue the owner of the unsecured wireless system used to commit a crime; the cause-of-action is negligence. In the stat of Michigan Act 53 of 1979 states, A person shall not intentionally and without authorization or by exceeding valid authorization do the following: Access or cause access to be made to a computer program, computer, computer system, or computer network to acquire, alter, damage, delete, or destroy property or otherwise use the service of a computer program, computer, computer system, or computer network. A man was arrested and charged with a felony for connect to the internet using Union Street Coffee Shops wireless network.

I feel that the law is unfair because if some one did hack my wireless network or just took a ride on my network that would give me position of there info their information. So it would not be stealing if I copied there information if I could get it as easy as typing in my internet explorer like I was surfing the web. The web service is rented when I pay for service. The service attaches to my net work if some one hack my wireless network it should be legal for me to use my service to gain information as I would be by surfing the web.
