Lisa:
Nortons leaves behind atleast 375 fragments, after you think that you have removed Nortons from add/remove.
1. You need to go to start, run and type in: c://program files, click on browse, open program files and try and delete the file Nortons. If it will not delete because says, being used by another software, just reboot and go back and it should delete. If it says write protected, I will give you software an indepth instructions on how to remove a write protected file. You will have to ctc. me
2. Now go to start, search and type in Nortons, and let your pc search for all Nortons related files and delete from the top to the bottom. If a file will not delete, saying, being used, reboot and go back and delete.
3. Now go to start search and type in: Symantec, or however it is spelled. And let your pc search, delete all related files to Symantec. Top to bottom.
Hope your problem is resolved. Nortons is pure junk. And a living hell to remove.
Best of luck to you, getting the fragments out is very important as they will cause conflict with any new antivirus you want to install.

Uninstall Norton first by going to ad/remove programs list, then download the Norton removal tool from Symantec here: http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039
I would also suggest running a registry cleaner like Free Eusing registry cleaner, but make sure you backup the registry and create a restore point before running any registry cleaners.
Once the above has been done, install your new AV software.

Oh yeah! I got the same thing! It was impossible to remove it! Btw, I run Linux now, and have done for over a year. It's free and it has no need for Norton because there are virtually no virusses for it.

uninstall it before you load anything!!! if you want the best viral program, get PREVX. it is a trial but FULL program it is the best there is if you have highspeed. dialup won't work with it. avg won't work very good because you get what you pay for, in this case a free program is nothing. goto the site and read about it. you'll be amazed and it is well worth paying for after the trial time is up...

I would wait till after you put something new on there. You don't want to leave your computer unprotected which you will do if you don't put something else on there first. I got rid of Norton too. Now I have AVG.
