A poster in the Rants and Raves section said he had my IP addy, then got my name, wife's name and SSI numbers. Is this possible if I've never emailed him? Could he get it from a CL posting?

I have software that will trace any person in the world that I desire that communicates with me. Plus complete details of any webpage that I open I can obtain from one of two software I use their name, address, server, address, domain, IP hostname.
In this case I would say that with having your IP address they only know what country or state that you reside in.
Report the person to "Craiglist", as I have seen many request on Yahoo Answers for the same problem. (I understand the website will take action).
You could ask the person for proof, by telling you what is your wife's name, SSI #.

Not from an IP. Hell no. Unless he works at your ISP, then I'm not sure. All and IP can do is trace back to the closest datacenter to your house. I live in Central Florida, with Embarq, so my IP would trace to either Apopka, Winter Park, or Lake Mary. I don't live in either town. He can't get your IP from a CL post, but he could if you e-mailed him and he checked the headers on the email.

No, he used old fashiomed Spyware.
You have to be in contact with the computer at the time the hacker tracks you, but with Spyware, he only needs to imbed the Trojan into any site of his choosing.
If your Spyware program is not up to date, you can receive the silent download without ever knowing it.
Download and use Spyware Terminatro or Spyware Blaster.
Do a complete scan every chance you get and update regularly!

yes its possible to trace ANYONE once u go to a site that tracks ur ip then they can trace ur location
its call trace route
