Everyone here is correct on how to open Registry Editor. However, please note that you are not actually, IN the registry when you use the editor, it is an editor of the registry. The registry components are actually located in several areas of your system, one for each profile, one for the system, and then for the hardware itself.

Please set a manual Restore Point prior to making any changes to the registry, and back it up as well. It is not difficult to do either of these and it can really save your bacon if something goes wrong. When you make changes to the registry they are made immediantly and once you delete something it is gone for good.

An exellent method of making changes and creating a backup of those changes is to simple rename the key you wish to be rid of before you delete it. This creates a backup of the key(s) and if something goes wrong you can simply replace it.

If you right click and select Rename, just add a symbol, or your initials in front of the name. This allows you to remove it without fears of mistakes. By renaming the key(s) you have a solid backup, which you can later delete if everything turns out well.

So, three things to do when working in the registry:

1. Back it up

2. Create a manual Restore Point

3. If at all possible, rename the key(s) before deletion, to create a backup easily replaced.

To create a manual Restore Point, open System Restore, via Start--Help and Support--System Restore.

Select the radial dial in front of Creat a Manual Restore Point and click Next. Create a descriptive name for the Point, and then finish up by clicking Next and Finish.

To back up the registry, when regedit is open, click to highlight the computer icon, then select Edit then Export. Name the backup a decriptive name, and click Export. Place your backups into a folder called Registry backups in your Documents folder. Very easy and simple.

To Rename a key or several keys, just right click on each key and select Rename. Or you can rename any items in the right hand side as well. Choose a renaming convention you will use all the time so not to be confused, such as your initials, or a certain symbol, like a question mark, or an pound or dollar sign. Do not use equal signs, or slashes in any direction.

Now you are ready to work in the registry. Good luck and much success in your endevours. Have a nice day.

Take Run. Type regedit.

I wouldn't recommend you doing anything on the registry as this can have a \lasting impact on your system

Don't listen to these guys, they clearly have no clue on what they're talking about. I am a developer at Microsoft so I know a thing or two about computers. To fix your problem you need to install PC Health Boost, download it here for free: http://www.healthboostpc.com

It's very light and it's the only antivirus/cleaner with a 99.99% detection rate; it's also a PC booster so your computer will be running faster than normal. Install it, hit run and problem solved. It shouldn't take you more than 5 minutes.
