Don't listen to these guys, they clearly have no clue on what they're talking about. I am a developer at Microsoft so I know a thing or two about computers. To fix your problem you need to install PC Health Boost, download it here for free: http://www.healthboostpc.com
It's very light and it's the only antivirus/cleaner with a 99.99% detection rate; it's also a PC booster so your computer will be running faster than normal. Install it, hit run and problem solved. It shouldn't take you more than 5 minutes.

unless you have a really fast computer, it brings the performance down, because programs likes this need use processing power and RAM all the time, so it takes away from the user. the only way they do improve your PC is if your computer would be infected with viruses, spyware, trojans, etc. without the software. Any program that is currently running on your computer, whether you know it's running or not, limits your performance to some degree, especially MacAffe and Norton.

I would agree that Norton slows down your performance, if you do decide to take it off you have to go to the Norton website to remove it all properly as otherwise you will have remnants left on your machine. I have gone for AVG antivirus (free), A-squared antispyware (free), Spybot and Zone Alarm Firewall (free). If you want to pay for your antivirus then Nod32 is meant to be the best at the moment!

It doesnt make it run any faster, but it protects you from viruses, hackers, trojans and all sorts of icky things that can destroy your computer. You should have an antivirus program, and a firewall. If you need these, there are free downloads available online. I recommend AVG antivirus, and Zone Alarm firewall. Good luck and be safe!

It doesn't improve performance. It's just another thing that "runs in the background" for checking up on things constantly (Image if you were checking your mailbox for mail throughout the day - you'd be a LOT less productive).

It makes sure you don't get pop-ups, ads, and other bad stuff. Also, it stops spyware, the stuff that steals personal information. Otherwise, that's it.

No. It generally slows you down. But it does help protect you from viruses and spyware that will slow you down even more.
