I stupidly clicked it. >_> And it was a file. And opened (conveniently deleted itself from my desktop in the process) First, it started sending the same message to everyone in my contact list. Then, my AVG firewall went down saying the configuration couldn't be found or something. I scanned my computer 3 times (3 hours). It came up with nothing.
I disconnected from my internet and scanned it again. Again nothing. I dl-ed CA Security Internet trial to get a spyware scan since Housecall Trendmicro auto-closed in the middle of scanning and my AVG is practically useless by now. It came up with a bunch of spyware(s) detected but it still feels as though my computer was still 'ill'. Next, my firefox's homepage was set to virushelpzone. I tried Symantec's virus removal tools. And it wasn't the serflog, kelvir or bropia. I've dl-ed Windows Defender by now.
Other problems: when I'm in forums, all the threads won't load properly... and I can't open msconfig or regedit.
I'm at my wits end. Help

defrug my pc everytime. What else should i do with my computer ? And about FIREWALLS, i am only using Windows firewall, installed in my pc from the very start.Should i get a different firewall that is more reliable ?

I have turned off the Windows firewall as suggested by Zone Lab. My O.S is XP w/SP_2. Every time I boot up I get this red colored dialogue box that says my computer is not being protected because the Zone alarm firewall is not working. Yet the ZA software says all systems are working and the number of attempts at intrusion keep increasing all the time from day to day. What's wrong here?. I tried uninstalling ZA and re-installing it. I did the same with the Norton AV and the problem still exists. I need help pls.

My brother always open the hibernate when I call him to close computer.

My windows updated some programs called for most the cases "XP HOTFIX" since 2005. I recieved the last update last thursday but now i am wondering if i should delete the previous update( found using the control panel window) or leave them ...and if i did delete them what could happen? Are they taking up space on my hard drive?
I could give more details if required but thanks to all of you who will answer me !

i dont really like the yahoo one, and the one that comes with mozilla deletes them!

My son syas Limewire is safe to install. Is it true or should I NEVER let him install it?? Has anyone ever heard of anyone getting a virus from them? He tells me that they scan everything before it is added to their site, but others say it is easy to get a virus from them. What is really true? Please help so that I may make a decision on this. I'm using Kaspersky Antivirus 6, the thing is i tried craking this S.O.B with everything, but everytime i download a registery key it's invalid.

Does anyone has a crack file or an activation code ?

I'm looking for an antivirus/antispyware/antiadware/firewall program or set of programs that will not consume all of my system resources. I have a notebook and find myself starting up and turning off my computer several times a day, which is a lengthy process with my current antimalware setup. I don't need some "bulletproof super-software", just moderate protection that runs fast. And just in case I'm not asking for enough already, why don't we try and get all of this protection in one suite (for easy disabling for program installation and such).

I have been on several and some say I have alot of viruses and then I tried to repair them but another says I still have them. I can't use a antivirus CD as the player on the laptop is not working so I need to get them off somehow. HELP!!!
