To have the best protection for your computer you need two things: both anti-virus and anti-spyware programs, they are not the same.
While there are some good free ones available, like everything, you pay for what you get. I work on the Internet daily and have had problems in the past with both spyware and viruses, but now I have what I consider to be the best protection and it is 1) Kaspersky anti-virus and 2) CounterSpy anti-spyware. These 2 programs are first class, work well together and will not slow your computer down like a lot of people claim that Norton does.
