Hello,

(ANS) Unfortunately this can be done quite easily by an experienced hacker/cracker (spammer). The email headers can be modified or edited so that the "from" details are changed & if you examine this emails header I think this is whats been done.

Its commonly called "spoofing", spoofing hides the real or orginal sender of the mail, it can disguise the real domain or server from where the mail was sent from too. (the domain or server is spoofed too!).

**There are a number of freely available (freeware) tools that allow you to "parse" (process) the emails headers and too see more clearly if the mail is spam or not, and to see if the details have been spoofed. Its almost certain they are spoofed in your example.

**Spam Cop used to have (and still have I think?) a free spam reporting tool on their website, were you copy & paste the emails headers into their tool and it parses the details for you at the click of a mouse. If the mail is spam it can be reported to the network administrators concerned running the networks involved.

Hope thats of use?

Best Regards
IR

hi!!

Tracking this issue depends on how the incident happed. What methods/approches is used ?
01. Some one got your user name and password, then send the mail from you accout
02. Some one send the mail, claiming/spoofing the mail is orginated from your accout.

In the second method, it is very easy to say that your hands are clean, just by looking at the header of the mail.

In the first method - you are doomed, if it is a major issue

Well, about tracking ::: You can track it back till the ISP. If you want to pin point the location from where the mail was originated, you need to have the permission from the ISP. Look at the header of the mail and find out the ISP and location.
Normally ISPs will not grant your wish, unless there is a police case and other mess are in place.

All the best.

It is easy to use ur identity to send an email to someone that looks like ur the one who sent it. If ur not that good, then u cannot trace it coz they are smart too. Better change ur identity or email address.

Create new identity in outlook express in the mail address you can fill in the desired mail address you want to use, then assign the outgoing mail server as the one you usually use, there is no need to assign the inmail server.

The idea is that you will use the mail server to send e-mails that is not based on real mail address.

you can roughly tell where they are, on the e-mail at the bottom click full headers, get their ip add and do a search using that
