Security - January 2007

i have AVG. it found viruses (tojans and worms). they are in the "vault" right now. does that mean the viruses cannot infect my computer further? do i have to remove them from the vault? if i send e-mails will i send those viruses as well, even if they are in the vault?

I noticed some shady charges on my credit card, and after much searching, found that someone used my CC number along with my real name and address to register a domain. The domain is being used to send out spam and maybe run some kind of overseas pharmacy scam.

The card has been cancelled and I have contacted the registrar in Australia to see if they can help me. Should I be doing anything else to get my name and address removed? I don't want people to think that I am a scam artist. Now I'm so worried, I keep checking the WHOIS. When will it go away? Is there anything else I can do?

This is weird. My myspace was set to private. I went to my friends list & this chick had somehow added herself to my friends list so she was able to view my page. It was creepy!!! How did she do this??

I have suspicions that my ex is hacking into my email. He slipped up today and told me things that only one other person knew of, and that person and I only communicate through email. My ex and my friend do not know one another either, and live 2 hours apart. So, how can I catch him in the act?

about this? What does it mean? Is someone trying ID theft? I do not know if they penetrated my defenses. This has me concerned.

I've run two different virus scanners and the windows folder still comes up when I sign on to my account. I am not sure what to do once I am in the system configuration menu looking at the processes there. For a PC running on windows XP, what should I be seeing? I think at least one startup item is a data miner, but that wouldn't cause the windows folder to open at startup, would it? It's "spdadmin" and it also has a command that shows up as a system32 file with the same title that has something about "hide" in the file name. There is also something with nothing in the startup item area and c:\windows\\\\\\\\\ in the command area. What are these? Could they be what's causing my PC to go bonkers? Somebody help; I'm about at my wit's end with this!

my computer has a trojin virus. The problem is right now I cann't get rid of it for lack of money to buy anti-virus. My boyfriend can still get into his yahoo and hotmail, but I cann't get into mine. I have 74 messages, and even when I put my password and ID in it still won't allow me to do anything. I don't understand why it lets him and not me. I am buying the anti-virus at the end of the month but what can I do for now. Even when I want to order through his e-mail it won't go through. Will I get everything back once I get rid of the virus? or will I loose everything. I'm new to this and unsure exactly what I am supposed to do please help if possible. Thank-You

I am using AVG on one PC, NAV SE on 2nd PC. NAV has expired and I have NAV Corp Ed to install. Under Task Mgr AVG appears to use ~2.5MB in 3 separate processes; NAV appears to use ~250k in one process. The 2nd PC is strained on resources: used as media center with PVR (on-board encoding) and TV-out video card.

Seems I've received 1 virus on 5 years, but with a 7yo using Google Search, I feel the need to keep a current AV running. My current choice is NAV or a free AV.

Seems like an easy call to install NAV Corp Ed on both. Am I missing something?

How secure is a digital answering service. To explain, instead of using an ansaphone, you subscribe to Bt or similar companies and they store your message for you. You dial a number and your messages are played. Where are your messages stored? Who has access to them? Some security guard on night shift? or is your privacy guarenteed.

I am trying to turn off the ad blocking on my Norton security and it won't let me because it says there is a script error. Is there any way to completely shut Norton down? I can only disable parts of it and can't turn the ad blocking off.
