I plan to build a computer. I am really confused about what CPU I should get. For $209 I can get 2.4 GHz at 1000mhz and for about $4 cheaper I could buy the Intel CPU and it works at a measly 1.86 GHz but slightly fast bus speed of 1044 or something. What's the catch, why can I get so much more from the AMD? Is AMD just not a good CPU? What does Intel have that I should pay more for?

Please, I would like to know what other people know about this.

I want to upgrade my Dell Dimension 3100 PC from 2x256mb DDR2 Ram, to 2x512mb DDR2 Ram. I found what I wanted at a PC Store yesterday, but the guy asked me which one of the above it was? Can I find this info out without having to remove the cover to look at the existing RAM? Also, I know it's 533mhz if that helps.

This usually happens when I try to install a DVD game on my PC. It usually shows a file name that ends in *.cab and says "Error: Incorrect Function."

At first, I thought it was just the DVD drive but I tried other ones, including an external one, and I get the same error. I've even formatted and reinstalled the OS and the same error happens. Anybody know what this means, what's causing it, or how to fix it?

Here is the situation. My CPU fan, for some reason was rubbing against the heat sink making an insane grinding noise. Got in the computer and fixed that. Then, replaced everything (heat sink and fan on CPU), turned on computer, had an AGP seating problem. Fixed that. Then, (problems travel in three I guess), my computer wouldn't boot. I placed Win XP disk in and went to recovery console. SATA drives can't be found (Raid 0 format on those) but, computer would see my old IDE drive. Checked power, everything is good there. Checked connections - all is well there. Checked BIOS settings, nothing ever changed, but no hurt in checking - all is good there.

Anyone have any ideas? My next thought is to hook up to a SATA external case and/or get a SATA to IDE cable and see if drive is still working. It's very hard to tell if hard disk is spinning up (never been very easy). However, I'm assuming that it isn't spinning up. Any reason why these would just stop like that?

I don't know much about GPU's since I'm barely gaining an interest in pc gaming but is it possible to do this? Will it make a difference? What is the most important aspect/spec in determining the performance a graphics card?

In ATX form factor, with standard ATX motherboard, is it possible to expand memory with a PCI memory interface card?

PCI memory interface card will plug into the motherboard, and the memory modules plug into the PCI memory interface card. (I think this can be done in NLX, but I am not sure in ATX).

If this can be done in ATX form factor, please give me a link where I can buy such PCI memory interface card or something alternatively similar. Thanks

(The OS is Win2K and Win XP Pro.)
