i dont understand, i thought the speed depends on the Ghz, but the core 2 duo is a lot more expensive, is it acctualy faster? please explain.

Core 2 Duo is based on better technology. It outperforms the Pentium D 8xx and 9xx even if it runs at a lower speed because it does more per clock cycle..

Compared to Core2 Duo, the apparently speedy Pentium D dual core is just good in producing HEAT.

As a general rule, more gigahertz (Ghz) means more speed. I would go with the 3 ghz model.

The reason the other one is so expensive is because its basically several CPUs wrapped up inside one chip. In theory this actually makes computing a whole lot faster, but they put relatively low-powered processers in there to make production cheaper. Normally I would say go with with the core2duo, but in this case since its an entire gigahert slower, I'd say stick with the dual core.

here is a cool link to compare Intels with each other:

(Core 2 have in general a larger chache which makes them faster although their clock speed is often below the Pentium D)

Who cares? All you can run on it is a slow operating system.
