It's been like this for months now and it really spoils it when i convert my cd's to mp3 files or copy cd's as it transfers thestops to the cd or mp3 file, it omly starta again when i move my mouse to unstick it

Sounds to me you have some 'protection' running that is freezing your progress. May be a virus scanner, a firewall, some auto-update that starts running when your PC is idle for some time.

If it is mouse movement that works the problem is bound to be software. Just start turning that background stuff off until you found the culprit.

If you hear a sort of clicking noise from the hard drive as well it may be it is failing in which case get a new new as soon as possible.

You may have some sort of background application that starts when the computer is idle, hence the mouse movement stopping it. Go through all the applications you have starting up with the PC and disable those you really don't need, this should also have the added effect of making things faster in general.

could be the drive is going south on you, I would back up everything and replace the drive.
