What are all the parts of your computer that various types of malwear attack?
sound card? HD? Video card? mother board?ect.
also are therr any web site that will show me how to check to see if each componet is too badly damaged and must be replaced. the comp is only 1.5 years old.

It does not attack hardware. It only attacks the software/drivers that run those pieces of hardware. There is no physical damage. Your software resides on your hard disc. That is where the damage is done. The operating system usually gets disabled.
If you have very important files, try this technique of repairing Win XP:

Then scan and clean with an anti-virus. Consider using Kaspersky or NOD32.
Otherwise you could just reinstall the OS, reformatting the drive in the process.
