hard disks, processor, graphics card, and fsb aside, is there a point at which adding memory does little to nothing to improve system performance? Would having 4 gigs help a computer over 1 gig for things like web browsing, word processing, and simple applications? nothing memory intensive such as games and graphics design. not talking about memory intensive programs, just basic computer use and minimal multitasking.

I was just wondering if there was a difference between the 20+4 Pin ATX Connector and the 24 Pin ATX Connector? I am purchasing an ASUS P5L-MX Mainboard and it has a 24 Pin ATX Connector. I was just wondering if I could use either the 20+4 or the 24?

My PC reboots itself after 30 - 40 minutes. I can be doing a task then the compter freezes up, the mouse doesn't work, you can still see the screen. Then it reboots itself, during the boot process sometimes it gets thru the memeory test or locks up at that point. Then other times it gets to the IDE dectection then goes no further. After 40 minutes or so I can start it up again, but I know I only have another 40 or so minutes before it locks up and reboots itself again.... Any ideas out there?

Although both are quite old model, but i just want a comparison..
1) INTEL PENTIUM 4 @ 3.0ghz socket 478 has:
NO 64 bit support
L2 cache - 1mb
single core

2) AMD SEMPRON @ 3000+ socket 754 has:
64 bit support
L2 cache 128kb
single core.

Now, what is the function of "L2 cache?"
intel has great L2 cache but has no 64 bit suport, while
AMD has less L2 cache, but has 64 bit support.

What will be your choice according to its performance?

Thank you

the new Intel® Core™2 Extreme Processor QX6700 has 2.66 ghz speed. its is a quad-core. Its definately faster than Pentinum 4 at 3 ghz. so if 2.66 ghz is in quad-core units, how much would that be in single-core units?
is it like 4 x 2.66 ghx or something else?

Hi everyone --- I have a hard drive which has gone the way of the crapper. I had about 300 gigs of data on it (MOST of which is backed up, but not all), and at this point, when I plug the drive in, windows recognizes it, but says that the drive is not formated. when I click in properties, it says that the drive is in RAW format (as opposed to FAT32). I KNOW there is data on this drive. Any ideas?????
