Last guy blew that answer, both use DDR controllers. The main difference is the fact that the FX-60 is 2.6Ghz compared to the 2.4Ghz of the 4600+, and also the FX-60 has twice as much cache. They are both based on the same core, the difference in names is just because AMD gives their top tier processors the FX name to set it apart.

Both of them have integrated memory controllers. If they use "Socket 939" it means that it uses DDR memory for RAM, while if its "Socket AM2" it uses newer DDR-2 memory. Both AMD Athlon 64 X2 and Athlon 64 FX have Socket 939 and Socket AM2 versions available in retail.

The only true distinguishing characteristic between the two is that the Athlon 64 FX has an unlocked multiplier, allowing you to easily overlock the processor, while the Athlon 64 X2 isn't. To put things simply, it means that you can run a processor with an unlocked multiplier at a higher speed that it was rated (although there are other ways to overclock without having an unlocked multiplier)

The main difference is integrated memory controller.

The X2 chip now has a DDR2 controller.

The FX chip has a DDR1 controller but more cache.
