I am going to assume you mean a PCI video card based on the extra info in the question. You may want to let people know the make and model as that may help.

In the BIOS of your motherboard, there may be a setting that needs to be adjusted to tell it that you want to use the VGA card that is active on the motherboard, that you want to use the AGP slot for your video card, or sometimes they are set to auto-select.

Get into the motherboard BIOS by booting the PC and looking at the pre-Windows black and white screen to see what key you need to press, usually it is one of these three: DEL, ESC, or F1

In the BIOS, look for any area that describes the video card selection options. If it is set up to use the on-board video, check and see what other options are available. You should be able to set that to Disabled and it will not look for that VGA connection.

Afterwards when it checks the PCI slots, it should see the new card you inserted and try to activate the monitor there instead. If it still does not show up, go back to the original on-board VGA settings and use that to boot into Windows. Next install any VGA drivers that may have been provided with the PCI card. Finally, try de-activating the on-board video again and see if it made a difference.

If it STILL does not work, you may have received a VGA card that was D.O.A. - Take it back to the store and advise them that it does not seem to work in your PC and you would like them to exchange it for another (either same model or another model).

You may even want to ask them to show you that it works by having them insert it into a local PC they may have at the service desk.

if your motherboard came with on board video you do not need another video card unless you want better resolution or more video speed ( processor on video card) check your cable make sure is nice and secured unplug it plug it back on if you have an other monitor try that. open control penal add/remove hardware device manager and see if video adapter is not on yellow mark (?) I do not know why you get no output on your new pci card when I am assuming that was the reason for putting it in make sure you are using the colored slat the one on the very top. good luck

Sounds like you are adding a PCI video card. You will need to go into the bios (hit either ESC or whatever Fkey it says at bootup to enter Setup). In there somewhere, usually under something titled "integrated peripherals", there will be an option you can change under video - change it to AUTO if you have that option, or whatever option it gives you to not use the onboard video.
