My PC reboots itself after 30 - 40 minutes. I can be doing a task then the compter freezes up, the mouse doesn't work, you can still see the screen. Then it reboots itself, during the boot process sometimes it gets thru the memeory test or locks up at that point. Then other times it gets to the IDE dectection then goes no further. After 40 minutes or so I can start it up again, but I know I only have another 40 or so minutes before it locks up and reboots itself again.... Any ideas out there?

I think your computer has viruses. Should look into it soon. By the way, how old is your computer?

All the things you mention make me think that it's very probably a problem with overheating of your CPU chip. Is the room you're in overly hot? That can cause it, as can a cooling fan not functioning or running poorly in the case. Open the case up and start up the pc to see if the fans are running. Also, while the power is off, try using compressed air to blow the dust out of the case. Hope this helps.

My old computer did the same thing. you may want to check the temp. in your (bios), somtimes the fans stop working or there aren't any installed. my old computer ran about 160-170 F, you could wipe your hardrive and check to see if your memory is up to date for your running programs and see if you have a video card/sound card upgrade, or it could be the processor. when my brother in law hooked up my computer up to a private company virus scaner i had viruses that wiped out all the memory, video/sound card, and both 80 gig hardrives. my old processor was a 1.6 ghz and I just put a 2.0 ghz in and it runs faster, but i spent around $700 total with shipping, just to upgrade it.
You may just want to buy a new computer and/or look for a nice used one.

Put in an extra cooling fan. and clean all the dust and tighten all wires and leave more space inside the cabinet. If all this does not work, try changing the SMPS and keep an eye on the temperature of the motherboard

It probaly has a virus because that happened to me. Try reading you manual, then if it came with a disc that starts over your computer completely then use it.(save your files in a USB if your going to take my advice, cause I didn't save it and It was all gone) If you do do that then you computer will become like when you bought it. and I I hope that helps.

If your computer is not working properly while you are working on it, it could be a problem with device drivers, hardware or software.

might be a software compatibility issue...try opening task manager and seeing what is using the most CPU on your computer.
