Sounds like you need a bigger hard drive or maybe add a second. PC's use something called swap space with is located on your hard drive. As you delete the files, windows is possibly detecting the freed space as space for the swap file. A 2nd hd would allow you to move the files off of your primary drive, let your swap file become larger and help your system run a bit better.

Every file on your drives occupies some space, so if deleting large amounts of information is not changing the pie-chart one sliver, then it could mean you have a bad 'Free Space Count'.
For Windows 98, run a Scandisk. If you have Windows Xp, run Chkdsk, at the command prompt.

if you are getting the error bubble that says low hdd space, the hard drive has x ammount of total space, and it gives a warning at Y percent space remaining. so even though you deleted the movies, it is still in the Y percent of space taken up. there is technically nothing wrong with your hard drive, but you would greatly benifit from buying another one.

how big is ur hard drive, sometimes the space could be free just it wont show on the systhem, try putting a file in see if it lets you, it could be annoying virus, or ur hard drive is diein,
try to run a spyware check (go to download.com) download Ad-Aware SE. run the test let it find all the spyware and delete it.
run anti-virus software, it u still have problems, ur hard drive is damaged, try to delete programms u dont use anymore,

oh and for file sharing use LIMEWIRE(limewire.com

Of course Defrag your drive but maybe this program will work. It deletes all temporary files (even the hidden ones you think are deleted). To date, its the best at cleaning out your drive.

Delete the items in your recycle bin. They're still there.
