The reason the new Core 2 duo processors speed is less than the older pentium 4 is that intel had problems with heat at higher speeds, so intel reduced the speed by 15% to save power and thats why their new idea for the chip is performance per watt...even though the Core 2 Duo chips speed is far less intel has greatly improved how it processes information and it out performs it by far..

The best analogy to describe the difference between dual core and non-dual core is the same analogy used to describe the advances in the bus architecture on a computer's mother board.
Think of multiple processing channels in cual core as a multilane highway that can handle much more traffic than could a single lane. Your going to have much greater throughput when you multiply the paths through the cpu even if the other cpu (your 3.0 ghz) has the higher speed.

"why do dual core processors run on less ghz speed?"
Different processor design.
"for example I have pentium 4 3.0 ghz. but new dual core are 1.8ghz, 2.2ghz..."
Dual cores are more efficient. They run at far lower clock speeds but beat your P4 hands down.

The faster the speed, the more wattage a processor consumes. Some of the newer and smarter processors will lower the speed of the processor when the CPU load is low, and speed up to meet demand, for energy efficiency.

a typical processor, like a Pentium 4, can purely do one element at a time... a million thread at a time. So enable's say you have 2 courses working... such as you're downloading a song and burning a CD on an identical time. the pc provides a small slice of time to a million thread, then it switches over and provides a slice to the different. it is "multitasking." A twin-middle processor is in fact 2 processors on one die. particularly of having to flow to and fro between the threads, a twin-middle can relatively do them the two at as quickly as as a results of fact there is two processors! it relatively is dazzling! So even however the two processors are working on an identical velocity, you're able to do lots extra advantageous than the different. Now, enable's no longer be fooled in regards to the cost of the processor. working example, there are middle-2 Duo processors, and there are twin-middle processors. A middle-2 Duo it is two.4Ghz is lots lots quicker than a 2.4Ghz twin-middle. Why? spectacular question! The technologies used to make the processors are distinct. however the main important element is the "education set" that the processor makes use of. In different words, the way that it crunches numbers. The middle-2 Duo crunches numbers lots extra effectively than a twin-middle. So a "slower," a million.8Ghz middle-2 is relatively quicker than a 2.4Ghz twin-middle, as a results of fact of the way it crunches the numbers. something else to evaluate- The middle-2 Duo can safeguard a sixty 4-bit working environment, the twin-middle can purely safeguard a 32-bit. So what? i'm going to inform you what! enable's say you have a recreation it is able to working in sixty 4-bit mode. sixty 4 bits is 2x extra advantageous than 32! which potential it is able to sending 2x extra archives at one time. that doesn't relatively propose it could do issues quicker, even with the undeniable fact that it does propose it could do extra at as quickly as. video games and application that are 64bit tend to have extra useful properties and seem nicer, as a results of fact they are in a position to crunch extra numbers interior an identical quantity of time!
