I stiII have no success burning DVD-Rs, even though I have successfully burned a DVD-RW (a movie). Burning CD-Rs and CD-RWs, along with the DVD-RW mentioned, has been fine. I keep getting a “media write error” when I burn DVD-Rs (early in the process and up to 98%). I have done all the usual troubleshooting (i.e. different media, lower burn speed, diff. software, uninstall/reinstall, etc…). I have tried copying DVD to DVD (uncopyrighted material) and burning from my hard drive – nothing works.

These are my laptop specs:
- AMD Athlon 1600+ (1.4GHz) processor,
- 256 MB RAM,
- 20GB hard drive with 5GB hard drive space (on C drive) to work with (I am able to copy a DVD to my hard drive with no problems).

Are these specs just not enough to work with to burn a DVD? (these are the minimum requirements listed for my external DVD burner). Does anyone know what the error message means? Is there anything left to try before I give up? Thanks :)

well i'm programing a software for windows CE 5.0 that receive data via USB 2.0 and show them as pixel on screen, that is cpu bound but the system is suppose to only run this program. i'm going to buy a SBC motherboard with this cpu: onboard ULV C-M 1GHz/0kB CPU
my question is if i use that SBC is it possible that having 0kb cpu cache affect the performance of my program?
and if so, is it really a big deal that make me to get a cpu with higher cache?
thanks ^^

I just got a new computer and I want to know if I can use my old computers Hard Drive also. I think my new one might be SATA and my old one is IDE. Also I need to know if my old Hard Drive is infected with a virus will it infect my new Hard Drive as well? The last time I used my old computer I completely wiped out my Hard Drive and did a scan which turned up nothing. I have had problems with my old computer though and I don't know if it was virus related or not. I don't need to do this right away, my new Hard Drive is 200GB so only when I fill that up will I need it. I'm pretty good with computers so if you just explain it I'm sure I could install it and get it working. Already transferred my CD-R Drive from my old computer over and installed it. I know that for Memory you have to make they are the same speed, so I probably won't even do my memory. I already have 1GB so it's fine now, but I really want to know about the Hard Drives. If anyone can help it would be great.
Thx

Well everytime I go on my computer it either re-boots or freezes about 5-10min later, 20mins at the most, and I believe the problem is that my memory (RAM) card has a small but clear stratch to it, and I think thats causing my computer to over heat and reboot, but before I go buy a new one I thought i better check before I do anything.

MTBF = Mean Time Between Failure and is a measure of how long hard drives last. I have heard that setting power management software that powers down a hard drive, until user activity when it starts back shortens hard drive life.

Computer is about 4 years old. Microsoft Office wrecked my computer. Kodak Easyshare is giving me great problems. Internet won't work anymore.

I'm not a computer guy, so if you answer, please list step by step solutions. I don't know names of parts and stuff.

The blue screen has come up about 4 times in the last month. And the computer is extremely slow.

I recently purchased a game telling me that I need a nVidea 5700 graphics card (or similar) or better. I currently have a nVidea 5200 and I want to upgrade it. There are a ton of video cards out on the market and I really could use some help in choosing the right one.

I have a LCD monitor. I only game and surf the internet (no movies or video editing).

Can anybody make any recomendations?

Thanks for answering. Your help is greatly appreciated!

I recently purchased a PC game that is recommending that I have at least 1G of RAM and a nVidea 5700 (or similar) type of video card.

I currently have 512K of RAM and a nVidea 5200 graphics card. I have a basic understanding of PC's but I want to make sure that I am not buying something that I don't need (whether over buying or under buying).

It appears that most RAM is SDRAM and I can get it in "sticks" of 512k or 1G each. But some is 240 pin and some is 184 pin. Is SDRAM the right type? Should I buy 2 512k sticks or just go ahead and get 2 Gig? What do I need to check for my pin type?

The Video cards are another question entirely and I think I'll ask it in another question. If you want, feel free to give me any advice here as well.

Thanks for answering!
