Actually, the "gaming pc" is really nothing more than a computer that has the ablility to play 3d games like Unreal, Doom, etc. Doesn't have to have the best to be a gaming machine, just good enough to run the game smooth.
Things like 3Ghz type or faster (not very important, but helps alittle bit), 2gb of memory, harddrive large enough to hold what you need. Some can use 20gb hd to 300gb hd, according what you save/load. Video card is the important part, Closer to the higher end is the choice. SLI only comes into play when playing at a very high resolution (like 2048 by 1600). Typically most play at around 1024 by 768-enough for one video card to handle.
For guides and benchmarks goto www.tomshardware. They have info about this and can help give you a clearer picture.

Ok what makes a gaming PC.
One awesome processor with lots of over clocking abilities and high clock rate like around 3.5 - 4 ghz.
High quantity of RAM like 1-4 gb with high FSB like 533mhz or above.
High quality LCD for video display like 1600 * 1400 or above.
Gaming mouse ( high sensor and clock speed like 1 megapixel and 1 ghz )
High end graphic card generally PCIe cards set in SLi mode. with total GPU strength above 1 gig and 1ghz.
Has good quality cooling solutions inside tower like liquid cooling or high standard heat sinks for HDD, mobo and SMPS.
All Gaming computer have a very high end PSU or SMPS - power supply unit like around 600 w or above.
All of them have around 1 terrabyte or more hard disc space so you can assume huge storage from these machines.
above all It needs a rocking mobo ( motherboard ) cos that what can fit all this best are by Asus or Lanparty.
Also these PC have a Flashy cabinet, Lasercut glass finish and colorful LED's in them to make 'em look attractive.

it is going to play the latest video games, yet maximum of them will artwork sluggish on intense settings. Why? Celeron isn't the gaming cpu sequence. Get an i3,i5 intel cpu, or a Phenom quad middle from AMD.
