I just got a new computer and I want to know if I can use my old computers Hard Drive also. I think my new one might be SATA and my old one is IDE. Also I need to know if my old Hard Drive is infected with a virus will it infect my new Hard Drive as well? The last time I used my old computer I completely wiped out my Hard Drive and did a scan which turned up nothing. I have had problems with my old computer though and I don't know if it was virus related or not. I don't need to do this right away, my new Hard Drive is 200GB so only when I fill that up will I need it. I'm pretty good with computers so if you just explain it I'm sure I could install it and get it working. Already transferred my CD-R Drive from my old computer over and installed it. I know that for Memory you have to make they are the same speed, so I probably won't even do my memory. I already have 1GB so it's fine now, but I really want to know about the Hard Drives. If anyone can help it would be great.
Thx

well, you definitely can move you old hard drive to your new PC....

check wether there is another IDE connector.... if not, you can always use the slave IDE connector of the CD-ROM ( I assumedd the CD-ROM use the master..)

You'll have to look inside the case to see if it supports an IDE hard disk. Otherwise you'll have to use a USB IDE Adapter.

Unless you are sure you have a virus and you actually know what the virus is and what it is capable of, I wouldn't worry about it.

You're new computer should be SATA. I would just purchase an additional SATA drive as opposed to using an older IDE drive.

You could buy an external HD case, then put the old drive in there, and use it as an external drive. If it is big enough you can use it as a backup drive.
There are a few at Cyberguys.
