Well everytime I go on my computer it either re-boots or freezes about 5-10min later, 20mins at the most, and I believe the problem is that my memory (RAM) card has a small but clear stratch to it, and I think thats causing my computer to over heat and reboot, but before I go buy a new one I thought i better check before I do anything.

Probably is the memory card, do you only have 1? Otherwise it could be the processor, or a virus, too many applications and memory being used?

Getting a new one may fix the problom, and it is always nice to have extra ram, so in the worse case you will have extra ram,

if the same problem continues, try putting both sticks in, and see if your computer is infected or justrunning too much.

The problem you are having does not require a new computer immediately rather it requires you to know little about something you have been using.Well such problem may indicate that the PSU or some component is overheating.First check all of the power connectors between the PSU(power supply unit) and the system.Ensure that the PSU fan and CPU are operating correctly.Clean inside the system unit and the air vents at the back of the case. After this steps if problem still persist try writing back here for further details. It sounds stressful but you will gain a lot from it

You can't definately put this problem down to your RAM but you can get hold of software that will create a bootable CD that can test your hard drive and RAM for errors. Go to your computer manufactrer's website and find your model for this.
You can also disable the automatic restart function, so that the next time that this happens you will get and error code on a blue screen, You can use to search microsoft's knowledge base for your problem.
Start > Control Panel > Performance and Maintenance > System > Advanced > Startup and Recovery Settings > Under system failure, untick Automatically Restart.
Good Luck,
Richard

Failures of the CPU fan can be one of the causes. The CPU generates a lot of heat when it is working and it needs to be cooled down or it might literally melt. Most CPUs will simply stop running for a few seconds if the fan isn't flowing enough air to keep it cool. Another problem can be dust inside your computer. It can stop the air from the fan getting to the CPU. You should check that out, lots of people have problems with dust. Most companies offer dust-removal services.

IF I were you I would not hesitate to buy memory (RAM), You wanna keep that pc? go get some ram (512 MB ).
I also recomend that you run the Disk Defragment, let it run till it tells you it has been degragmented throuhgout.
Clean it up by deleting all cookise, temporary internet files, browsing history.
Performing all these taks helps a Pc run good and healthy.
Follow my advice. Good luck.

Start with a reimage of your hard drive. Slave your drive into a different box, backup your data, then reload. If you are still haveing problems, then you are probably dealing with heat issues or in my case it was bad capacitors, those little thing that stick up on motherboards that look like miniture batteries. If your capacitors are bulging or have rust looking stuff coming out the top then you need a new motherboard.

Memtest86 will test RAM, you may need to use someone elses PC to burn the bootable disc. If you have multiple RAM sticks, try pulling one out at a time.

Try reseating all cards. Clean all fans. Remove heatsink from CPU and reapply thermal grease.

Second link is "ultimate boot disc" it has many diagnostic tests (including memtest86)

I don't know how advanced you are with regards to a PC.

OK......first off all PC runs slow because of all the crap that are on them first thing is to clean it all up.
open Internet explorer,find tools,Internet options,you need to delete files,cookies, history,delete all.
Find days to keep history,I'm sure you have it on 20 or 21,every time you visit a web page this stays on your hard drive, that's why pages take so long to load,Because its searching your hard drive......put it on zero,Or the lowest you are able, click apply.
OK that's cleaned a little.
Next click start,all programmes,accessories,system tools.disk clean up,do both drives.
Next click start again, all programmes, accessories, system tools, disk defragment, analyze both c and d to see if they both need a degragment.
Here is a free virus scanner link,by far the best i ever seen.

http://www.spybot.info/en/index.html...

A computer needs baby sitting and has to be cleaned up regularly.I do this at least 2 times a week.
one other thing you can do is to click run, in run type in msconfig/SERVICES,START UP
Here is your system configuration, which show you what programmes are starting up,be carefull not to disable what you don't recognize, msn, you will see in there,Example that you can stop this if you wish, look around to see what you want to start up or not...?
