I'm new to EMC. My company has a Clariion and centerra that I can get my hands on them. I also want to get an EMC certification. How/where do I start? My boss is willing to send me to EMC training; however, I have been searching on emc's site, and a lot of certification training couses are not available in my area (NYC). Should I even think about getting the certification now? Or I should get some hands-on experience on the hardware first?

The amount of cache on the processor greatly affects the cost, why is this? is it because its harder to make due to the small size of the chip? and therefore more expensive than other memory?

I think PenDrives are limited to a certain number of insert / retrieval. I lost my first pen drive of 64mb about a 6 months of use. I lost my next pen dive 128 mb about a year of use.

What happened is that I inserted the pen drive at a local machine and then it went kapoot, shut off and no one to repair or explain. The unit went down, and there was no more blinking light.

So I´m just about curious about what you think? After how many input/retrieval would a pen drive stop to work?

I have a 1000 kVA UPS (I assume it's a standby UPS), described on the case as a Proline. In the specifications, the transfer time is given as 8ms typical, 10ms max, including detection and transfer (but I have no way of testing this).

Thanks to the previous replies to my query about this UPS, it seems as if the UPS is either faulty or is just an inferior product. In any event, I'm still reluctant to run my PC on it. I'm therefore still only using it for a 60W reading lamp. (The lamp flicks off and on briefly when there's a power failure).

Is it possible to tell how the current is distributed between the lamp and the UPS battery? In other words, if I keep only this lamp on all the time while the UPS is plugged into the mains, is the UPS battery charging up or will it eventually run down? Or isn't it that simple?
