don't know where you heard that, optical storage is not touted as being resilient up to 200 years if kept safely. Magnetic media will not last that long, even on good storage, and can be erased in a magnetic field

It´ll last as long as your fingers never touch the surface...I did it once and all of those disk have now gotten 5% of it´s area eaten by microgerms...it´s amazing. That was 6 years ago. Also humidity will create fungus...There are many EXTERNAL factors that will anyhilate the CD.

But basically it´ll last as long as the medium it holds lasts....

A cd is only going to last as long as you can take care of it without gettin it all scratched up. Magnetic media is only going to last as long as you can take care of it without gettin it demagnetized.

as long as it's looked after properly then a long time. magnetics can be wiped, well, magnetically. CD-ROMs will last unless they're over scratched.

it depends on the CD-ROM maker and your CD-ROM drive and/or burner because sometimes when you play CD's or DVD's for that matter and you play it constantly the discs do deteriorate.

Depends on how you look after them. Treat them right, and they will treat you right.
