I checked in 'sounds and audio devices', but it says there is no audio device. It was working perfectly fine earlier today. I can only hear off windows media player.

go to my computer, right click it, hit properties, under the hardware tab find your audio device and delete it, restart your computer and it will find it and reinstall the drivers

did you accidentally disable your audio device?
check the audio device in the device manager by right click it and select properties and check the availability of the device.
or, you'll just have to reinstall the driver of your device.

I think there is a virus out there. A lot of people have been writing in saying that they have suddenly lost the sound off their computer, and i don't think its coincidence.

you may have to reinstall your drivers....did you change anything in your system before you noticed your sound going off?
