I have my uncle's old hard drive which contains lots of original writings and some family history notes. I would like to copy everything to the drive my mother currently uses (note* - she does not have a CD or anything) and then wipe out everything personal leaving the O/S to be able keep the drive as a back-up or donate the it somewhere.

I thought that maybe easiest would be to bring the hard drive home (my house) and just download to CDs. But this involves hauling the drive across the border and maybe there are simpler possibilities I'm not aware of.

Help please!

I can't get a single CD to burn! It's really annoying me... :o(
Do you think it's the software or my actual drive?!?

Is there anything I can do to check it?

It seems to be reading disks fine, it burns but can never complete - I think it gets stuck at the lead out stage...

I'm a designer and I used to use a Matrox G450 video card at my last place of work to give me Dual-head capability - ie. the desktop was spread across 2 x 20" monitors. I've now gone out alone and I would like to upgrade my home system as cheaply and as effectively as possible. I remember that although the Matrox card was spot-on, it could not cope with 3D images very well and was not supported by modern games. I would prefer to have some kind of 3D capability if possible. Also a requirement is that I would occasionally like to be able to have different resolutions on the different monitors - something the Matrox card did very well. I would like to know if it is possible to do this sort of thing without having to buy a new Matrox card - all of the Matrox cards I've looked at have been priced in excess of £150 and I really can't afford that at the moment. Can I do this with a "normal" video card? How?? Many thanks in advance!

After a recent move, I plugged in my speakers and got a humming noise. Come to find out i hooked up the power cord from an old DSL modem. I switched cord and now the speakers are crackly and i can not use them. If I get new speakers, will this solve the problem or did I do damage at the entire speaker system?

i do not want to fry my PCB on my MB and im wondering if anyone can answer my question, on the face plate connector for the MB the metal case has these peg legs on it, on another case i have, its inside metal doesnt have any peg legs and i had to use these golden looking screws on that one for it to fit in correctly, HERES THE MAIN QUESTION: if i have all my peg legs which are welded onto my cases metal plate that are touching my MB and i screw in the screws, exactly to the case, without any of the golden screws attached, will it end up shorting out the PCB on the MB?
