not sure what you are asking here but if is it why do they give you a usb cable then the answer is because usb is avilable on any modern pc and can transfer info on usb2.0 very quickly. Great for transfering your pictures to/from phone to/from computer.

USB cables can be used for connecting other devices as well
Such as printers, broadband routers etc. Modern PC's are minimising Com/Parallel ports and are having more and more USB ports.

question not very clear- however there are other technologies USB is just one of them.
you can go for wireless data transfer with:
Infrared
Blue Tooth and
WiFi
personally I hate BlueTooth as getting it up and running is a big Pain.. wath out for duplicate blue tooth dongles...just in case
